8th month pregnancy diet chart

In the eighth month your baby is gaining weight quickly and pressing on your stomach and bowel. Constipation, piles and heartburn are common. A high-fibre, small-and-often eating pattern with plenty of fluid helps most. Keep up iron and calcium, and make sure you are eating enough — undereating to avoid discomfort is a common trap.

Iron tablets are a frequent cause of constipation in late pregnancy. If yours are making things worse, do not stop them on your own — ask your doctor about a different form or timing. Gentle movement, a regular toilet routine and not straining matter as much as diet in preventing piles during these weeks.

8th month diet: common questions

What should I eat for constipation in the 8th month?

Whole grains, fruit, vegetables, soaked raisins or prunes and plenty of fluid. If it persists, your doctor can recommend a laxative that is safe in pregnancy.

Should I eat less to avoid heartburn?

No — eat the same total amount in smaller, more frequent portions. Undereating can leave you tired and low on nutrients.

Which foods help prepare for labour?

There is no strong evidence for specific labour-preparing foods. A balanced diet and staying active with your doctor's agreement are the best preparation.
