Sound is one of the first ways a baby experiences the world. Gentle music and chanting are traditional pillars of Garbh Sanskar.

Choosing music

Soft instrumental music — flute, veena, sitar or slow classical ragas — is commonly recommended. Keep the volume moderate; you don't need headphones on the belly.

Mantras

Many families chant Om, the Gayatri mantra or a prayer from their own tradition. The rhythmic breathing of chanting also calms the mother.

When to listen

Ten to fifteen minutes in the morning or before sleep is enough. Pair it with slow breathing for deeper relaxation.
