A 1-minute read for family

What is garbh sanskar?

Garbh sanskar means caring for the baby before birth — with calm, good food, kind words, stories and songs. It is an old Indian tradition, and many families still follow it today.

The baby can hear. From about the fifth month, babies begin to hear sounds. By birth they know their mother's voice — and the voices they hear often.

A calm mother matters. Rest, good food and a happy home help her feel well. That is good for her and the baby.

How you can help

  • Take one chore off her hands each day.
  • Tell the baby a story or sing a song from your childhood.
  • Keep the home peaceful in the evenings.
  • Remind her she is doing well.
  • Support her doctor's advice — garbh sanskar goes alongside medical care, never instead of it.

It is not about making the baby cleverer or choosing anything about the baby. It is about love, starting early.
