A month-by-month garbh sanskar guide
2 min read · Updated 2026-10-12
The Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas describe pregnancy care month by month, and many families like that rhythm. This guide offers a gentle plan for each of the nine months — diet, mood, music, mantra and one simple activity — matched to the guiding quality Garbh Katha uses for each month of the 280-night journey. Treat it as a menu, not a rulebook, and check any change to food or exercise with your doctor.
How to use this guide
Each month has a quality — calm, nourishment, trust, wonder, kindness, wisdom, bonding, patience and courage. The stories, mantras and partner tips in the app follow the same rhythm. You don't need to do everything listed. Pick one or two things that feel right, repeat them, and let the rest wait.
The diet notes describe a general, balanced Indian home diet. Your needs may differ — for anaemia, gestational diabetes, thyroid conditions, allergies or a vegan or Jain diet — so follow your doctor's or dietitian's advice first. Don't fast, start herbs or Ayurvedic preparations, or begin new exercise without checking.
First trimester (months 1–3): settling in
The early months are often the hardest physically: nausea, tiredness and big feelings, usually before anyone else knows. Garbh sanskar here is mostly about rest and kindness to yourself. Small, frequent meals; sleep when you can; and a short evening ritual that asks very little. If nausea stops you from eating or drinking, call your doctor — it's common and treatable.
Second trimester (months 4–6): wonder and connection
For many mothers energy returns, the bump appears and, somewhere around 18–24 weeks, the first flutters are felt and the baby begins to hear. This is a lovely time to start reading aloud, singing and talking to your baby, to involve your partner, and — with your doctor's approval — to try gentle prenatal yoga and walking.
Third trimester (months 7–9): bonding and preparation
The baby is listening more and more, and you may notice patterns in their movements. Keep stories and songs consistent — the ones you repeat now are the ones most likely to feel familiar after birth. Focus on rest, breathing practice, preparing for birth with your care team, and letting your family carry more of the load. Learn the warning signs, and keep your doctor's number close.
A note on music and mantra
Choose music you enjoy at a comfortable volume — the baby hears your body's response as much as the music itself. Ragas are suggested below because many families love them, but any calm music works. Mantras are offered as a calming practice; chant softly, or simply listen. If chanting isn't part of your tradition, a short prayer, poem or gratitude line serves the same purpose.
Your nine months at a glance
Each month follows the same guiding quality as the stories in the app.

- Mood
- Expect big feelings and tiredness. Rest without guilt and tell one trusted person how you feel.
- Music
- Soft instrumental music or Raag Yaman in the evening; low volume, eyes closed.

Month 3 · Trust (विश्वास)
Month 3 guide →The first scans, the first worries. This month we practise trusting the body, the process and each other.
- Diet

- Mood
- Scans and waiting can bring worry. Write a worry down, then set it aside for the night.

- Raag Kafi or soft flute; or a song from your own childhood.
- Mantra
- Mahamrityunjaya Mantra — Each night, name one worry aloud — then set it down for the night.
- Activity
- Start a small gratitude jar or note — one line a day for your baby.
Month 4 · Wonder (विस्मय)
Month 4 guide →Energy returns and baby's senses are waking. Fill these weeks with beauty — music, nature and stories that sparkle.
